Q.1 How faithful is the movie to the original short story?
A -
We can say that the movie is somehow faithful to the original short story. Same incidents happens in both movie and the story except two or three incident. One is the astrologer’s wife at the initial part and his reveal of his crime through the story of money. These scenes are not mentioned in the original text.
Q. 2 After watching the movie, has your perception about the short story, characters or situations changed?
A -
While watching the movie, I could not feel ‘aesthetic delight’. There are some reasons.First and foremost reason is the change of setting. In the short story the setting is important. R.K.Narayan is famous for his fictional town ‘Malgudi’. So if the filmmaker used the setting of ‘Malgudi’ town then it might give an appropriate idea. Inappropriate introduction of the most important character ‘An Astrologer’, when we read the story then we found a proper image of an astrologer. In the initial part of the story we can read very knit observations in the story.
Q.4 Does screening of movies help you in better understanding of the short story?
A -
Yes, it helps me to understand the story in better way. Tgere are some times when we don't want to read any book so we can watch the film. This way we can understand the story in easy way. It is said that if we have watched the story rather than reading a book it is more appropriate in understanding.
Q.5 Was there any particular scene or moment in the story that you think was perfect?
A -
Yes, the scene which is ironic about the stranger asking if he will succeed in his "present search"? He has already succeeded, although he doesn't know it.
Q.6 If you are a director, what changes would you like to make in the remaking of the movie based on the short story “An Astrologer’s Day” by R.K.Narayan?
A -
Yes, i would like to change some things, some incidents, attitudes of some characters like Guru nayak blindly trusts on an astrologer. It should not be like that only. He should not trust him blindly. He should think about it at his own. 'An Astrologer's Day' is a very eye-catching story.
One lesson to be learned from "An Astrologer's Day" is that there are many poor and ignorant underprivileged people who have hidden talents which can blossom if their circumstances change. The astrologer in this story was forced to flee to a city from his little village.
